Where we work

We focus all our efforts on giving children like these a real start in life. And thanks to the generosity of some amazing supporters, we’re well on the way to making their new classroom a reality.

Adaklu Aziedukope is a remote village in the Volta region in the south of Ghana. Around 650 people live in the village – 200 of them children. But with only a basic shelter for a classroom, they cannot be guaranteed an education or the opportunities it could open up.

At the moment, school is not seen as a priority because many of the children’s parents did not go to school and therefore cannot understand its importance;  by highlighting what education can do for individuals, their families and the whole community we are helping them move forward.

Yaarah Schools ... where we work

Girls in particular are encouraged not to go to school and instead to help the family raise money by going to the market.  With an education behind them they could become more knowledgeable traders.

Building a Community

This project helps parents and others in the community to take an interest in the future of their children, especially as we are utilising the labouring skills of the community to build the school, not contracting the work out to others.

Progress has already been made at the school with the headteacher seeing an increase in attendance, punctuality and the number of children enrolling for classes.

The community has also come together to raise money to hire a bus to take some of the children to compete in a sports and culture event held in  the region – at which Adaklu Aziedukope Primary School won two awards.
