Our Story
Welcome … and thanks for visiting the Yaarah Schools project
The project was launched by a group of volunteers determined to throw a learning lifeline to under-privileged schoolchildren in the remote village of Adaklu Aziedukope in Ghana.
The idea started when a member of the group visited the village. She saw that school tuition only took place when the weather permitted because the school was nothing more than a simple shelter, offering shade from the sun but not protection from the rain.
Pupils come to school – when it’s open – carrying their chairs in one hand and books in the other.

By providing a school building the children will have a facility in which they can have lessons and learn through play, regardless of the weather. £2,500 can build and equip one classroom and allow up to 30 students to have a permanent shelter in which to learn, raising the standard of education.
By getting the community involved with the building project we help give the village a focus – something they can all do together for their benefit. There are many skilled labourers in the village and by using their skills to build the school, the project really does become theirs. We at Yaarah Schools simply provide them with the materials that they can’t afford to buy and they begin to reap the benefits of the hard work put into making the school.
Once completed, the building can also be rented out for other events in order to raise money for the village which has 650 people in it.
That’s Yaarah Schools’ mission … and our passion.
Our vision
- Our aim is to raise money to build schools in rural Africa through our partner NGO Yaarah Foundation in Ghana.
- To have the conditions that will enable village children attend school like any other children irrespective of the weather condition in the country.
- To have similar project in other part of the world as Yaarah Schools become well established.
Our goal is …
1. To facilitate the advancement of Education in Africa by
- Financing the building of classrooms in remote villages
- Equipping schools with basic furniture and teaching materials
2. To facilitate the advancement of health in Africa by
- Financing the provisions for safe drinking water, toilets and basic medical provisions in schools for the benefit of pupils, teachers and the local community
3. To facilitate the relief of poverty in Africa by
- Encouraging the development of income generating schemes within schools
- Establishing adult education and skills improvement within the community
4. To work in partnership with schools in United Kingdom by
- Involving parents and creating a link between children in schools in the United Kingdom and children in Ghana in terms of exchanging ideas and cultures.
- To work in partnership with other interested parties.
… and finally
There is a lack of cultural awareness of the way in which children in other countries live and learn amongst young people and communities in the United Kingdom. We hope to share educational experiences across the globe and broaden cultural awareness – especially amongst the younger generation.
