Community spirit comes alive at FUSIONITE
Nayo Hunt a long standing friend and supporter of Yaarah Schools gives her take on FUSIONITE 2010!
Yaarah Schools first major entertainment and fundraising event, FUSIONITE, went underway on Monday 6th September proving to be a successful night filled with fun, fashion and good vibes.
Friends, family and supporters turned out to support the event and enjoy a show case of exclusive live fashion, entertainment from this generations freshest wordsmiths, vocalists and DJs and of course wholesome African Cuisine. Radio presenter Remel London hosted the night.
As a spectator (and a friend of one of the Yaarah Schools team members) I was very impressed by all of the hard work and perseverance that went in to make the night a success.
It’s never easy to coordinate an event, in fact it’s hard enough to plan your own birthday party. But in this instance the stakes were significantly upped and the pressure added as the success of this event would have a direct affect on the Yaarah schools project and thus the prospects of children in Ghana in need of a learning lifeline.

The night came together very well. Despite heavy rain and tube strikes over 100 people turned out to support the cause. The success of an event like relies just as much upon the spectators the planners and the sense of support and community spirit was clearly evident in the generosity of those who attended and the good- will of the performs who agreed to share their talents voluntarily.
Unique pieces such as ‘Make fufu not war’ t- shirts by Kayobi Clothing and the colourful, African prints incorporated into modern day fashion such as N’Kya Designs gave the crowds much to delight in and unique items to add to their wardrobes whilst providing valuable exposure for talented young designers.
In this way Yaarah Schools managed to tick a number of boxes; providing sound entertainment, good food and exposure for young talent as well as inspiring others to take action. But most importantly raising money for young people on the world’s poorest continent. Well done Yaarah Schools, we look forward to the next event!
