Fundraising in 2009
2009 ended on a high with Yaarah Schools raising over of £600 in December alone. A number of fundraising events took place and a several networking events meant that we were able to reach out to more people who could help Yaarah Schools including Dan Mason. On the 9th of December we hosted our first major event at the Caxton House Social Club of the Department of Work and Pensions alongside the Department of Children Schools and Families. The event was a quiz night with a raffle and tombola! It gave us a chance to speak to people about the last trip to Ghana and share some of the ideas we have for the future. It was a challenge to organise all the food, music, prizes and decorations but with some help from a few exceptional individuals including Jenny Ramsden, Len Lucas, Gill Emerson and Paul the barman the night was a great success.
On the 3rd of December a member of the Yaarah Schools team, Adizah Tejani did an African Jewellery and Cake sale at the University of East Anglia and managed to raise a whooping £100! Jane Brown raised a total of £69 from raffle ticket sales at her Christmas party. Whilst Angela Roberts organised a Ghanaian themed dinner party for a number of her friends and was able to collect 16 shoe boxes of goodies for the village school children.
With all the events of December 2009 the team is hoping to come up with some more fundraising events and ways in which to raise the profile of Yaarah Schools. We always welcome ideas from others so please feel free to contact us if you have any ideas on things that Yaarah Schools can do that you would like to share. So bring on 2010 and every opportunity that comes with it!
